Classic Lasagna

"I absolutely love this classic lasagna recipe—it's so delicious, it's a celebration in and of itself. There's no getting around the fact that it's labour-intensive, but unlike many of life's labour intensive projects, it does not disappoint. I've been making it at least once a year for the past decade and on the rare times that I've strayed and tried another lasagna recipe, it was never, ever worth it. It's now my one and only, and I suspect it will become yours, too." — Maureen Halushak, editor-in-chief

"Maple custard oatmeal takes a humble breakfast food to new heights. Seriously, if you don’t think you like oatmeal, this recipe might just change your mind. With a velvety smooth texture and subtle sweetness, it’s a healthy dish that feels as indulgent as dessert. I like to make it on lazy Sunday mornings and because the leftovers keep well in the fridge, I can enjoy it during the week, too." — Amy Grief, freelancer

Creamy Mushroom Paté

"The creamy mushroom paté is probably my favourite appetizer to come out of the Chatelaine Kitchen. The combination of fresh and dried mushrooms adds lots of delicious umami flavour, and you can serve it with crostini, crackers or vegetables. It's basically a vegetarian version of chicken liver pate." — Irene Ngo, food content director

Fruit And Nut Steel-Cut Oats

"The slow cooker I received as a gift sat unopened in a box for approximately three years before I decided to try it out (yes, I am a creature of habit and no, I am not a very experienced cook. How did you guess?!). After weeks of making overnight chilis and stews, I was THRILLED to discover you could make a week's worth of tasty, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast in it. This recipe is ridiculously easy and the seven minutes it takes before bedtime makes me feel very accomplished when I have breakfast waiting for me the next morning." — Jennifer Berry, managing editor, Flare

Vegetarian Haggis Cottage Pie

"I have made a lot of vegetarian shepherd's pie recipes with varying degrees of success. But this one is a winner, and cozily perfect for a cold day. It's also doable on a weeknight if you're not in a rush (it takes about 40 minutes, as the recipe promises), and my two kids both had seconds, which is almost unheard of." — Gillian Grace, deputy editor

Coconut Shrimp Noodles

"I love this recipe because it's so easy to make and the ingredients are all very easy to find at your average grocery store—no need for a special trip. Aside from that, it's also very yummy—the sauce is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, the noodles are the perfect vessel for the sauce and the snow peas contrast the heaviness of the coconut milk." — Rebecca Gao, freelancer

Sesame-Ginger-Beet Quinoa Bowl

This is a colourful, hearty, healthy and delicious recipe that will make all those New Year's resolutions seem doable. (It also taught me how to use beet greens, which previously I'd tossed in the compost). The leftovers make a great lunch, and the dressing is kid friendly (mine love anything that pairs honey and sesame oil). Classic Butter Tart

"I've made the butter tarts and they were great! Huge hit. They were a bit finicky to make but I followed the instructions exactly (ie: refrigerating dough for 20 minutes, opening the oven for 10 seconds when you turn down the heat) and it was well worth it. Pastry was perfectly browned, and the filling consistency was just right. Tasted delicious. I made them last year and I definitely would make them again." — Claire Gagne, senior editor, Today's Parent

Classic Coconut Cream Pie

"Despite looking complicated, this special occasion recipe is actually approachable. I love how much thought went into making this the ultimate coconut cream pie—there’s coconut in the crust and before you top the crust with vanilla custard, you paint it with melted white chocolate for an extra hit of flavour. This pie is truly impressive to serve and tastes even better than it looks."— Amy Grief, freelancer
