After 36 hours of brainstorming, building, and a chick-fil-a-intensive diet, our team hacked "Buzz-Bazaar", a web app that utilizes the power of Georgia Tech's student community and connects students with legitimate resellers of second-hand books, furniture, electronics, etc. within the campus. 🛍️Check out its demo video below! 📹Here are a few lessons I learned during the Hackathon: 1. Have the courage to "kill your babies." The first idea/prototype that you come up and fall in love with might turn out to be lukewarm. Have the courage to discard it.2. Don't aim for an industry-grade app (you most likely wouldn't get there within 36 hours). Building a functional prototype is where it's at. 3. Coding is fun—as is taking out the time to socialize with fellow builders and attending workshops. Super grateful to HexLabs, Inc. and College of Computing at Georgia Tech for this opportunity and my amazing team members Karishma Kamalahasan and Amishi Mittal!

Another nighter hackathon!!! [edit] it’s apparently not an all nighter this time. Folks in person have to leave the Talmage building at 11PM MDT. Nothing stops them from continuing remotely though. This may be a forcing function that puts remote attendees on a more level playing field. Closing ceremonies happens the following day (Saturday) at 11 AM MDT.In person in Utah at BYU. That said if you wanted to remotely join an in person group I bet there would be many who would welcome that.I can’t overstate how good these can be for your career. You build an entire project in one night, or learn a new tool, or make an open-source contribution. Or all 3.Some things I’ve been considering:- I might learn how to do exploratory data analysis on unstructured data with Voxel51’s open source tool. - Or learn Dagster. - Or try to set up ML monitoring a REST API with an open-source tool like NannyML, Deepchecks, or Evidently AI . Pretty please brainstorm some project ideas in the comments here. I may join you or I could help you find others who would.Jacob Petterle, Srishti Gureja, 👾 Ryan Russon, Miriah Peterson, Chris B. , Dylan Skinner , Jay Cui , Sterling Long , Rosson Long , Isaac Z Tai , Calvin Boyce , Faith Riddoch , Chaz Gundry

Earlier this month Toluwaleke Agunbiade, Tommy Wei, Joshua Obljubek-Thomas and I participated in the GDSC McMasterU Solution Challenge Hackathon. Together we created ByteBrain.ByteBrain is an accessible, byte-sized learning tool that aims to provide quality learning to high school kids worldwide whom the pandemic has hindered.ByteBrain is an education study tool that students can use to study a variety of subjects. Simply launch the app, and pick the subject you want to study. In each subject, you can pick the unit and specific chapter you wish to practice. ByteBrain will show you endless word problems related to the chapter. Once you have your answer, input your value into ByteBrain and repeat! Most of my work included making the front end of the app in Android Studio.Overall I had a great time and I can’t wait for the next hackathon! If you are interested in learning more below is the GitHub repository for the project.https://lnkd.in/eMiPQF2X
